THE GREAT HACK investigates the Cambridge Analytica scandal and the largely invisible economy built around personal data. Following former insider Brittany Kaiser, professor David Carroll, and journalist Carole Cadwalladr, the film traces how information harvested from millions of people became a tool in political campaigning and helped ignite a global debate over privacy, technology, and the power of data to shape public life.
“The Great Hack captures the nightmare of data crime… a chilling view of democracy’s erosion.”
The Hollywood Reporter
“A crisply edited, intimate, and propulsive story.”
The Bulwark
“Perhaps the most chilling part of the film shows that a Cambridge Analytica operative worked on a campaign in Trinidad and Tobago in 2013, inciting a certain strand of the population – assessed as liable to support the clients’ opponents – not to vote, creating a bogus grassroots anti-establishment campaign with the ironic slogan ‘Do So!’ The point of course was not to ‘do so’ or do anything at all, not to vote, in fact: an insidious argument for apathy. Anyone who says voting is a waste of time needs to watch this film, if only for this segment.”
